As operators face the challenge of more demand for mobile services and the limited available capacity to deliver them, a call has been made for additional spectrum to be found.
In their new White Paper the UMTS Forum urges the ITU to examine spectrum requirements for 3GPP systems as well as broader IMT systems, to identify the potential for harmonized spectrum at its future conferences.
The Forum urges that additional spectrum should be allocated.
ETSI has issued a call for candidates for the post of Project Manager in the ETSI Mobile Competence Centre (MCC), to be responsible for technical support of one or more 3GPP Working Groups.
Applications for this position should be received before the 31st January 2012.

Building on their successful stream at last years’ event, the GSMA and the NGMN - both Partners in 3GPP - have announced their “Technology Evolution” stream, to be held during the Mobile World Congress, on the 1st March 2012.
The session is described as an "opportunity to discuss with industry leaders the experiences of successful deployments as well as the development of architecture and operations towards highly efficient, smart mobile broadband networks."
Balazs Bertenyi, the 3GPP SA Chairman, will be present to give a status report on Release 11 and an overview of the Priorities for 2012.
